Tata Oil Mills Company (TOMCO) introduced Moti in 1970s as a luxury product with sandalwood scented fragrance and its biggest differentiating factor was its round shape, earlier most of the soaps were in rectangular shape. In the year 1993, it was acquired by Hindustan Unilever Ltd.

TV ads played a huge role during 90s and early 20s and Ogilvy created below ad which established the relation of Diwali and Moti soap.
This ad portrays a young woman lighting lamps, praying and using Moti soap what played a significant role was that the scent of Moti soap evoked memories of 'utna,' capturing the essence of the fragrant oils used before bathing.
After the Moti was acquired by HUL it lost its connect with audience for a while but again in 2013 with the ad of ‘ALARM UNCLE’ In the commercial, a little boy goes door-to-door in the morning, urging everyone to use Moti Soap for their bath. This scene mirrors the way an older man used to do the same in his younger days, a nostalgic nod to the 80s and 90s advertisements. The ad successfully taps into our memories, creating a warm and familiar feeling for those who remember those earlier commercials.
